Haverfordwest County’s development squad produced an excellent all-round team display to gain a convincing win over their counterparts from Aberystwyth as they led 4-0 at half time and added another six goals after the interval.

Aber were always on the back foot after a bright start and their cause wasn’t helped by the fact that defender Liam Berner was correctly shown the red card by referee Ben Williams for denying an opponent a goal-scoring opportunity in the first half – although they did manage a consolation goal by Jack Rimmer as reward for their dogged persistence but missed a penalty chance.

But by then the home side were well on top as ace striker Alfie Stottor used his pace to good effect in scoring two early goals before adding another three goals in the second half after returning from international duty with Wales’ Colleges in Italy.

The Aber defence was simply unable to cope with his dynamic runs as skipper Glen Fiteni, Paul Miller, Kristian Speake and Tom Wellington supplied the ammunition from midfield.

Speake and Wellington are first team squad members desperate for game time and the latter supplied the midfield ‘bite’ as Speake created chances and still found time to get on the scoresheet twice alongside Ben Aldred, Wellington and sub Mohammad Romman.

At the other end, Australian ‘import’ Alex Cornell made a couple of good early saves and generally bossed his area well to show watching first team manager Wayne Jones that he deserves consideration for a first-team squad place.
He linked well with Connor Roberts, Aidan Rainbow, Fraser James and Fraser Finlay and it was small wonder that manager Steve Batty and assistant Brett Hawkridge wore big smiles at the end of a game sensibly reffed by Ben Williams as he worked well with assistants Dave Badger and James Olyott.
