Sam and Shaun top the second division cricket stats!

Paul and Janice Webb's excellent cricket statistical work is finally over now that the County Club's chairman and his wife have completed their facts and figures for division two during the 2018 campaign.
 
There were lots of runs scored in a very hot summer and a surprisingly high number of wickets as Sam Franklyn (Saundersfoot) and Shaun Whitfield (Carew) topped the respective tables, with Carew's domination of the section being the fact that they had seven players spread amongst the two disciplines.

Sam scores runs galore

 
Leading the way in the batting stakes was Saundersfoot skipper Sam Franklin, with a massive 626 runs that included a top score of 110 and an average of 52.16, ahead of Narberth's Ritchie Adams (42.57) and Stackpole’s Josh Davies (541) - but had the placings been decided by averages we would have seen the first three being Carew’s Tom Davies (64.33), followed by Franklyn (52.16) and Josh Davies (49.18).
 
There were  ten centuries in the line-up, with Saundersfoot's talented young batsman Tom Mansbridge as the only one with two 'tons', with Welsh Over 50s opener Neal Williams (Cresselly 2nds) claiming the highest score of 139 before he retired.
 
And the most consistent run-maker? That was Josh Davies, with six half centuries for Stackpole; followed by four apiece from Franklin, Adams, John Curran (Llechryd) and Barry Evans, still going strong at Pembroke.

No doubt about the top wicket-taker because that fell to Shaun Whitfield, whose tally of 36 was three ahead of Jonathan Rogers, whose finished three ahead of Franklyn.
 
Franklyn was clearly the best all-rounder in the section with first and third positions, followed by Tom Davies (10th and sixth), then Narberth's talented teenager Loui Davies (14th and 13th), and Tom Mansbridge (7th and19th).
 
If the bowling tables were based on best averages then the honour of top spot would be still be with Whitfield (7.92 runs per wicket) followed by Saundersfoot's Neil Powling (8.6) and Tom Davies (9.21).
 

And finally . . .

 
No doubt about the best figures in one match - that was the 6 for 55 haul earned by Pembroke pace man Rogers, ahead of Tom Davies (5 for 4), Powling (5 for 7) and Whitfield (5 for 8).
 
It all adds up to some impressive batting and bowling statistics and as usual we at PembrokeshireSport.co.uk are grateful to Mr and Mrs Webb, whose job in this division is a little harder because some teams sometimes don’t have a scorer!
