Reid bags late winner for ten-man Robins to break cup holders' hearts

Milford United line up before they narrowly beat Clarbeston Road and have set up a finals against derby rivals Hakin United

2025 Senior Cup – Semi-Final

Manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League  –

Milford United 2 - Clarbeston Road 1

Scott Reid was the toast of ten-man Milford United as the striker bagged a late winner to break the hearts of the holders Clarbeston Road at the Ogi Bridge Meadow under lights in front of a decent crowd.

With the score level at one goal apiece, up popped deadly Reid who pounced for a timely winner inside the box - and there was no way back for the cup holders.

Coming into this semi-final both sides had beaten each other once in their respective home league games, so coming into this mouth-water tie The Robins showed no fear against cup holders The Road.

Milford United grabbed an early lead as Jack Dyer volleyed home from close range at a corner, The Road tried a few long range efforts  through Travis Jones, skipper Josh Wood and striker Ben ‘Rocky’ John, none of which troubled Robins’ confident goalkeeper Charlie Malloy.

On the 30 minute mark the Robins should have doubled their lead, but some last ditch defending as the shots reined in on the The Road goalmouth  - but miraculously the ball didn’t find the back of the net.

Travis Jones’ well flighted corner was met by a header by Matthew Davies which looped over Malloy’s crossbar.

The Road had a ball cleared off the goal line from a corner as The Robins narrowly led 1-0 at half time, with The Road needing to find more cutting edge in the second period.

Shortly after the break The Road came close to levelling matters as Travis Jones struck a powerful rising shot from 20 yards which grazed Malloy’s crossbar, minutes later John struck high and wide from the angle.

John unselfishly cut back a pass to Matthew Davies who struck a low drive straight to the outstanding young keeper Malloy.

Shortly after the goal, the Robins were reduced to ten-men as skipper Scott Griffiths was issued a straight red card for up ending goal scorer John, who was the last man through on goal on the edge of the 18 yard box.

On the hour mark The Road equalised with a well taken goal scored through John who showed neat kill to beat a few defenders before his low edge of the area shot found the bottom corner.

Anthony Hubbuck missed a glorious chance to give The Robins the lead as the central defender lashed a 12 yard effort inches wide of Rhys Mansell’s left hand post.

However, in the 82nd  minute against the run of play Scott Reid buried his close range effort net into the back of the net.
