Haverfordwest County came from behind to salvage a point against fellow Welsh Premier strugglers Port

This result was not what manager Wayne Jones had envisaged, nothing more than three points was what was required – but after a host of missed scoring opportunities over the 90 minutes – the Bluebirds camp will feel hard done by with a draw at the final whistle.

The Steelmen are eight points clear of relegation haunted Haverfordwest County in the table, and the Steelmen will be satisfied with their point on the Bridge Meadow.

Both Haverfordwest County and Rhyl are on 20 points and above the pair in tenth position is Port Talbot with clear daylight between them.

Clarke scores

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, a corner was poorly defended and Joe Clarke took full advantage to score from close range.

Port Talbot goalkeeper Steven Cann pulled off a stunning save midway through the first period to deny Luke Borrelli scoring from a well struck low free kick from the edge of the 18 yard area.

Wasteful in front of goal

Haverfordwest County's striker Jason Bertorelli wasted a good scoring chance in the second half and Borrelli was also wasteful in front of goal.

The Bluebirds were awarded a penalty when Borrelli took a tumble inside the box, but he tamely struck the resulting spot kick straight down the throat of Cann.

However, Borrelli made amends when he equalised ten minutes from full time, but despite pressing hard for an elusive winner it finished all square.

Next Saturday, March 19th the Bluebirds entertain derby rivals CarmarthenTown; the kick off is at 2.30pm. Then they are away for the next two Saturdays against Bangor City and Aberystwyth Town.
