Mighty Vikings hit Athletic for six to progress in FAW Trophy
FAW Trophy Round 2:
Ynystawe Athletic 1 – Hakin United 6
Nicky Woodrow bagged a brilliant hat-trick which secured Hakin United a place in third round after they humbled Ynystawe Athletic at Ynystawe Park.
The Swansea League first division outfit currently sit fourth, but they didn’t really trouble the in-form Vikings who led 2-0 at half time and scored four further goals in the second period.
After a cagey start the Vikings opened the scoring in the 28
th minute as midfielder Jack Britton released Shane Walsh who tucked home past Damian Davies.
Mark Jones headed home Camron Thomas ball in the box for his side’s second and put his side in control of the tie.
Midway through the second period Woodrow bagged a hat-trick in 16 minutes to turn the tie on its head. Jay Power set up the third, Walsh set up fourth for the striker to header home, the same man set up the fifth.
The hosts were awarded a penalty which Cai Owen despatched, but the Vikings had the final say as Jones bagged the sixth his second header that was set up by Leon Luby.
Hakin manager Scott Davies said: “It was another tremendous performance through the squad, we ran them into the ground and the tie was never really in doubt.”
