Hook Ladies retain indoor title

Congratulations to Hook Ladies for winning the indoor league competition as their potent mix of youth and experience saw them beat a Llanrhian squad that also had title aspirations but lost against the champs in the final match of a competition played over ten rounds – and so finished joint seconds alongside Cresselly, with Burton in fourth place.

But equally pleasing was the fact that a number of the other clubs, some of whom were playing indoors for the first time, showed a real improvement and hopefully will be back in 2026.

Great sporting ethos – and superb organisation

Sam Rossiter receives the champions trophy from Andrew Scott-DaviesAlso witnessed by this aged pen pusher was the fantastic spirit in which the games were played, with a round of applause even for opponents who reached the retirement requirement and had to give someone else a chance to bat.

So well done to Sam Rossiter for her terrific organisation of the whole competition as she also received the trophy as Hook skipper and added another trophy because she won the ‘top batter’ award, ahead of Carrie Slack (Llanrhian).

Hook made it a clean sweep of trophies as opening bowler Maisy Davies won the ‘Best Bowler’ award from Andrew Scott-Davies, who presented the trophies.

PembrokeshireSport.co.uk is also proud of the fact that we were the only newspaper or media outlet who provided a match report of every match, plus all the team photographs and best individual performances in all ten rounds of game, as we did with the Men’s Indoor competition earlier in the indoor season – and were still there at the post-match presentations!!

Burton (Minus Yazmin Kiff)

Match One:

Llanrhian set up titanic final clash as Burton fail to fire

Llanrhian 104 for 3 (15) beat Burton 81 for 3 (3) by 23 runs

Llanrhian were comfortable winners against Burton as they batted first, established a three-figure score and then kept their opponents’ strong batting lineup relatively quiet to give themselves a chance of winning the title for the first time ever.

They applied such pressure when batting that Burton were unable to give of their best in the field so that Carrie Slack, Amanda John and Katy Jenkins all retired early, with Slack in particular hitting the ball very hard.

Abby Ladd and Vicky Grange added late runs alongside 10 extras as Yazmin Kiff, a welcome new recruit to the Burton squad grabbed their only wicket and Rhiannon Morgan also bowled a tight two overs.

Morgan is a key all-rounder for Burton but departed early when she was a run out, a fate that befell all five batters to lose their wicket, although Becky Barton batted well to strike five threes and three fours before she retired.

Bron Scale also hit out well with a six, five and four threes in support but Carrie Slack and Abby Ladd prevented them from keeping up with the required run rate and Llanrhian were good value for victory.

 Llanrhian

Match Two:

Hook dominate matters to win silverware in style!

Llanrhian 48 all out (0 points) lost to Hook 51 for 0 (16pts) by 6 wickets

The final match of the entire 2025 season became a ‘winners take all’ affair as current champs Hook took on second-placed Llanrhian, whose confidence had been boosted by a comfortable victory just before against fourth-placed Burton, whilst Hook hadn’t been in top nick on Monday evening with their two wins there.

But Hook showed just why they have been unbeaten all season as they retained the silverware with a very easy win as they restricted Llanrhian to a disappointingly low score of 46 for 5 in their allotted eight overs and then knocked off the runs without losing a wicket in only four overs!

Llanrhian ‘big guns’ fail to fire as Hook field well

Llanrhian’s big score in their earlier match again owed much to their top three, all now in the county outdoor squad for 2025, but Carrie Slack, who earlier had blitzed 25 runs, fell to an excellent second-ball catch by keeper Kate Farr off Maisy Davies.

Katy Jenkins, another county squad member who had also retired in the first game, came and went to Bethan Chapman - and the third member of this talented trio in Amanda John, was the victim of a superb direct hit on the stumps that saw her run out before she managed double figures.

So, at the half way stage Llanrhian’s tally stood at 21 for 3 and Hook really turned the screw when Abby Ladd looked likely to rebuild the innings - but Jemma Phillips took a terrific, low, one-handed catch off a wall rebound to give Tia Rees a wicket.

Hook openers pile on the pressure

Vicky Grange did manage double figures and was not out at the end but Chelsea Ladd was run out by Kate Farr’s quick thinking and Llanrhian had managed only 34 runs off the bat, plus 14 extras that gave their innings a little boost, but Hook dominated matters, especially with their bowling and fielding on an important occasion!

It says much for Llanrhian’s battling qualities that they never gave up trying but Hook openers Kate Farr and Jemma Phillips are old hands at the indoor game and as good a pair of runners between the wickets as you’ll see - as evidenced by the fact that there were threes galore as they coolly knocked off the runs to give their team another title as reward – and Jemma finished the indoor season in style with a straight drive for six!

Llanrhian Innings: Vicky Grange 10*. Maisy Davies 1-8, Tia Rees 1-8, Bethan Chapman 1-9, Jemma Phillips 1-10

Hook Innings:  Kate Farr 22*, Jemma Phillips 26*, Amanda John 0-11, Katy Jenkins 0-11.

Post-Match presentations:

The post-match presentations were undertaken by Andrew Scott-Davies, the Hon Treasurer of the Pembroke County Cricket Club, and he congratulated Sam Rossiter on the magnificent way the competition had been run, all the clubs, players, umpires and scorers for their part.

He also thanked PembrokeshireSport.co.uk for its special coverage before he presented the silverware to Hook skipper Sam Rossiter, who also won  the ‘Most Runs’ trophy – and Hook completed a clean sweep of the silverware as talented bowler Maisy Davies was the winner of the ‘Most Wickets’ award, who had taken such vital wickets over the final two rounds of the competition.
