2025 Ladies Indoor Cricket - Round Seven

Burton (another two wins out of two)

Round Six – 24th February 2025:

Ladies Indoor Cricket 2025 (Sponsored by the Pembrokeshire Groundsmanship Association)

Burton win twice as Whitland unable to field a team

Umpires: Ian Milsom, Johnny Lewis, Nick Daley, Will Ridge
Scorers: Clarissa Lewis, Rhys Daley, Bronwen Scale

Venue: Neyland Community Hub

For the second round of matches a club was unable to field a team and, on this occasion, it was Whitland who sadly missed out so St Ishmaels and Pembroke Dock received 16 points by default, although naturally both teams would have preferred to play because Whitland, who have played all their other games, provided good and sporting competition and shown how much they have improved.

Both The Dock and Tish both still had one game to enjoy against a very experienced Burton team, who were comfortable winners on each occasion, with their defeat seeing The Dock becoming the first team this campaign to round off their participation.

Match One:

St Ishmaels 58 for 4 (1) lost to Burton 61 for 2 (15) by 4 wickets

St Ishmaels were without a couple of regular players but battled hard against good Burton fielding as they could only muster 58 for 4 thanks to 24 extras, but with Sabrina Sweeny and Tei Tallett providing the bulk of the runs from off the bat, Sabrina carrying hers throughout the innings as their ‘anchor lady’.

Becky Barton had struck early as she bowled Leanne George early on, whilst Olivia James made a welcome return to action with the wicket of Tracy Chandra late on in an accurate two-over spell.

Becky then showed what a good all-rounder she is when she opened alongside Finola Scale and they raced to 51 without loss before Becky was run out, having belted a nice straight six as she only faced 11 balls.

Tish showed their battling qualities as Lucy Luke  was run out cheaply but with Finola Scale having already retired it was plain sailing for Burton as they reached their target from only 5.2 of their allotted eight overs.

St Ishmaels Innings: Sabrina Sweeny 14*, Tei Tallett 10, Extras 24. Becky Barton 1-11, Olivia James 1-7.
Burton Innings: Finola Scale 25 (13 balls), Becky Barton 23. Tei Tallett (0 for 1 in 1 over).

Pembroke Dock

Match Two:

Pembroke Dock 85 for 3 (2) lost to Burton 86 for 0 (14) by 6 wickets

Pembroke Dock rounded off their season with a good score of  85 for 3 but Burton again showed their high batting skills as they romped to victory without losing a wicket, with 10 deliveries still in hand.

The Dock had lost the key wicket of Katy Griffiths early on as Finola Scale struck in her excellent two-over spell – but then Rachel Sandy and Martha Bhari batted really well to take the score past 50 before both retired.

It left  Abbey Page, Kirsty Hannon and Katy Gibbins with the need to press on but it was too big a task against Burton’s pressure fielding, although Martha did return to the crease to add a few more late runs, as 11 extras also helped boost The Dock’s total.

But then Burton really showed how to bat indoors in reaching their target they ran 21 threes, alongside hitting two boundaries, and with only five ‘dot balls’ in their 6.2 overs faced.

Finola Scale and Becky Barton both batted well before retiring and then Anna Ridge and Olivia James maintained their momentum to ease home and keep Burton firmly in the top three as their reward.

Pembroke Dock Innings: Rachel Sandy 27*; Marta Bhari 33*; Extras 11. Finola Scale 1-6.
Burton Innings: Finola Scale 27, Becky Barton 26, Anna Ridge 12*, Olivia James 13*, Extras 11.
