Valero and the finalists were: Alan Evans, Andrew Evans and Michael John, Fishguard & Goodwick Ladies Hockey Team and Pembrokeshire County Bowls Team. Unfortunately Alan, Andrew and Michael are unable to be with us tonight, as they are representing Wales at the inter counties international in Solihul. They are represented tonight by Henry John.
Fishguard & Goodwick Ladies Hockey (Winners):
The Fishguard & Goodwick Ladies Hockey Team brought pride to Pembrokeshire with their 2024 Welsh Challenge Cup victory. The journey, saw the team triumph over fierce competitors, including beating Cardiff University 6-3 and in the semi-final Cowbridge 2-0. In the final the ladies faced Bangor and came away victorious with a 4-2 win. With immense dedication from players, coaches, and supporters alike, the team embodies both excellence and unity.
Alan Evans, Andrew Evans & Michael John (Runner-Up):
Alan Evans, Andrew Evans, and Michael John achieved the pinnacle of success by becoming World Champions at the World Short Mat Bowls Championships in Belfast. Demonstrating unwavering skill and focus, the trio remained undefeated, advancing through rounds with a remarkable 79-shot positive aggregate. Their closest match against England saw a narrow victory on the final wood, only to face England once more in the final. With mastery and composure, they clinched the championship title.
The Pembrokeshire County Bowling Association (Runners-Up):
The Pembrokeshire County Bowling Association reached new heights this year by winning the Welsh Lawn Bowls’ County Championship, the first victory since 1954. After a 70 year wait the county team managed by Andrew Muskett beat Carmarthenshire and Mid-Wales in the group stages and Monmouthshire in the semi-final. This historic win was sealed in a nail-biting final against the Vale of Glamorgan, where victory was claimed by a single shot.
