Haverfordwest Ladies gain superb second spot
Haverfordwest Ladies 49 Nantyffyllon Ladies 5
Haverfordwest Ladies’ Rugby Club completed their league programme with a 49-5 home win over Nantyffyllon that ensured them second spot in their league table – no mean feat since they have only been playing together for a short while.
It nicely sets them up for the cup series which will be played from January to April and is fitting reward for the squad coached by Gareth Charles and Ben John.
Haverfordwest took control virtually from the first whistle as Joanna Price, Kate Allen and Natalie Bowen won quality ball that was well used by Helen Humphreys, Clodagh Llewellin and Lyn Egelstaff in setting up solid platforms for the backs to use.
Natalie Lingwood and Rowena Wardman also played well up front and the Lady Blues were good value for a 21-0 interval lead as Charlotte Morgan claimed the first two tries and Lucy Peach added the third with a well-judged run, all three converted by Joanna Price.
Strong second half
Nantyffyllon did manage an unconverted try in the second half but it was Haverfordwest who kept firm control as Clodagh Llewellin scored their first try after the oranges and others came from Nina Colville (2) and the ubiquitous Natalie Bowen. Joanna Price maintained her 100% success rate with the conversions to build a personal hail of 14 points to help her side to an excellent win.
There was further good news when it was announced that Joanna Price, Clodagh Llewellin and Jaz Joyce had been selected for the Scarlets in a regional tournament, starying on the 24
th November at Cardiff Arms Park and then in December at Llandarcy.
