The manderwood Pembrokeshire Football League Division One season kicked off on Tuesday evening.

Seven games were played and the pick of the bunch was defending champions Hakin United entertaining Merlins Bridge at home.  It finished 4-2 to the Vikings, but it was not as easy as the score line suggests.

Nicky Woodrow opened the scoring before Hakin centre back Gareth Fawcett was sent off after picking up two yellow cards. Peter Thomas equalised as it stood 1-1 at half time. Midway through the second half and Justin Harding’s header restored the lead, but back came the Wizards with an equaliser header by Nathan Greene. Wizards’ keeper was issued a straight red card for taking down Harding, and Steve Allen scored from the resulting penalty, and deep in injury time Jonny Sable put the ball into his own net following a low cross in the box by Ashley Bevan.

New boys Angle suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of derby rivals Monkton Swifts. Ben Nicholas scored the only goal of the game that secured the points.

Goodwick United romped to a comfortable 4-1 victory at home against Johnston. Rhys Dalling, Kieran O’Brien, Rob Morgans and Lewis Banks bagged the goals for the Phoenix Lads – Ross Williams scored the Tigers’ solitary goal.

Last season’s Division Two champions Herbrandston thrashed Neyland 6-0 at the Athletic Ground. Shane Walsh (3), Scott Reid, Alex Ouzman and an own goal completed a cracking welcome back to the top flight for the visitors.

Pennar Robins came from behind to win 3-1 at West Dragons. Jordan Thomas scored the opener before the Robins rallied with goals by Ross Lascelles, Gareth Lewis and Ben Steele.

Tenby drew 1-1 at home against close neighbours Saundersfoot Sports. Joe Leahy found the back of the net for the Seasiders and Rhys Hewson netted for the Sports.

St Clears drew 0-0 at home against Narberth.
