Goodwick United given the freedom of the twin towns
Special recognition was made to Goodwick United Football Club recently when they were awarded the freedom of the twin towns of Goodwick and Fishguard by the local town council.
Huge success in first-ever triple win
Cllr. Belinda Davies proposed to Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council that the club be awarded the Freedom of the Towns, in celebration of their achievements for the 2016/16 football season, having achieved the following successes:
Manderwood Pembrokeshire League first division winners
The Pembrokeshire Senior Cup winners
The West Wales Intermediate Cup winners
Goodwick United is the first club ever to achieve the triple win, in the history of the Pembrokeshire league in the same season, since it started up in 1945, a huge credit for coaches Nigel Delaney and Chris O’Sullivan, plus the squad of players who gave total commitment.
Appropriate presentation by the mayor
The Mayor of Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council, Councillor Mike Mayberry, presented Brian Morris, the chairman of the club, with the award at the well-attended ceremony.
He acknowledged their tremendous achievements, along with recognising the dedication and commitment of the supporting heroes behind the club’s success: the parents, the officers and club committee, the referees’ assistants and the groundsmen.
The club has made a significant, positive impact upon the youth in the area and it was unanimously agreed that this rich honour be bestowed upon them.
