Festival scores with pupils
Over 300 boys and girls from 30 primary schools across the county took part in a County-wide football festival recently.
Organised by Sport Pembrokeshire - the sports development service of Pembrokeshire County Council – the Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Football Festival Cup took place over two days at Haverfordwest County AFC’s Conygar Bridge Meadow ground.
Tenby and Spittal Schools triumph
Pupils from Tenby Junior School won the large schools’ competition, while Saundersfoot Primary School were runners up.
Spittal School won the small schools’ tournament after beating St Mark’s, Merlins Bridge, in the final.
The winning teams will now represent Pembrokeshire in the Football League Community Cup to be played in Swansea later this year.
Elliot and Joseph are top players
Elliot Roach James from Roch School won player of the tournament in the large schools’ competition and Joseph Griffiths from Spittal School won player of the tournament in the small schools’ c
ompetition.
As well as competing on the pitch the youngsters also had the opportunity to meet Welsh FAW Ambassadors from the U19 UFEA women’s squad and were given goodie bags and had their faces painted.
Students from Pembrokeshire College football academy helped referee and officiate the tournaments.
