Another solid knocky by Nick Koomen for Neyland at Haverfordwest

Neyland comfortably win top clash

Haverfordwest (128 for 9) lost to Neyland (129 for 4) by 6 wickets

Umpires: Steve Blowes and Richard Merriman
Scorers: Jayne Cole and John Laugharne

Neyland were worthy winners of the day’s top clash on The Racecourse as they restricted Haverfordwest to a disappointing 128 for 9 in their 45 overs and took just 29.5 overs to reach their target for the loss of only four wickets.

And it was a cracking all-round team performance as all six bowlers employed by Sean Hannon, who also won the toss and invited The Town to bat first, shared the wickets as the fielding and catching was also traditionally strong for the visitors.

The frustration for Haverfordwest was the fact that all their top five batsmen made steady starts but failed to make the big scores necessary to test  their opponents with skipper Dai Davies (29), Danny Potter (17), Mikey Jones (16), Ben Field (16) and Jake Merry (26) came and went – and their inexperienced middle and lower order found it hard going.

Henry Durrant (2 for 21), Ross Hardy (2 for 21) and Andrew Miller (2 for 38) led the way for the Neyland attack as Patrick Hannon (1 for 24), Nathan Banner (1 for 12) and Brad McDermott-Jenkins (1 for 7) were the wicket-takers.

In stark contrast, Neyland set off their chase with an opening stand of 85 by Patrick Bellerby (27) and Nick Koomen (49), who seemed assured of another half century but gave a catch to Archie Thomas off Clive Tucker; the veteran off-spinner again the pick of The Town bowlers with 3 for 2 alongside Chris Phillips (1 for 35).

Brad McDermott Jenkins (17 not out) and Ross Hardy (15 not out) eased Neyland home and Neyland are top of the table as reward for this comfortable victory!

Cresselly cruise as Sutton stars again

Cresselly (163 for 4) beat Narberth (162 all out) by 6 wickets

Umpires: Trefor Evans and Arthur Brady
Scorers: Teagan Cartwright, Rhian and Richard Howell

Daniel Sutton continued his good start to the Cresselly campaign as he again top scored in a comfortable win over a Narberth side which did well to reach a healthy total of 162 all out in 44 overs but were unable to halt Cresselly’s powerful batting line-up rising to the challenge in only 32.3 overs.

Kyle Quartermaine led the visiting batting line-up with a typically powerful 44 (7 fours and a six), with support from Had Luff (27), Jordan Howell (20), Ban Quartermaine (19) and Kyle Williams (13) as all five Cresselly bowlers shared the wickets via Ryan Lewis (2 for 15), Tom Arthur (2 for 32), Tom Murphy (2 for 31), Dan James (2 for 39) and Charlie Arthur (2 for 34) – all from nine-over stints.

But then Cresselly made an excellent start of 79 through Phil Williams (19) and Sutton, who reached his 50 in 41 balls and had 9 fours and 2 sixes in a hard-hitting 63 before new skipper Iwan Izzard (21) and Alex Bailey (15) kept the pot boiling and Matthew Morgan made a welcome return with a stylish 40 not out (5 fours and a six) that took his side home despite the bowling of Ben Hughes (2 for 31), Ben Quartermaine (1 for 43) and Lewis Hough (1 for 26).

Lawrenny too strong for The Seasiders

Lawrenny (145 for 5) beat Saundersfoot (143 for 6) by 5 wickets

Umpires: Allan Hansen & Chris Stapleton
Scorers: Malcolm Thomas & Adge John

Lawrenny maintained joint second spot in the table as they beat Saundersfoot by five wickets, and with 10 overs still in hand, as The Seasiders still seek their first success for the season.

Put in to bat, Saundersfoot had runs from John Mansbridge (38, including 2 fours and 2 sixes)), his father Paul (23 not out), Sam Franklyn (26) and Nick Cope (30) as Rob Williams claimed 1 for 7 in nine miserly overs alongside  Harry Thomas (2 for 28), Steve Lewis (2 for 25) and Kurtis Marsh (1 for 46).

Marsh then stroked five fours and two sixes in his top score for Lawrenny of 46 and James Phillips also chipped in with 30 before Joe Kidney (24 not out) and Thomas Cole (10 not out) eased Lawrenny to victory.

Tish hit back after Dunfee shoots them out

St Ishmaels (78 all out) beat Llechryd (56 all out) by 22 runs

Danny Richards 45 not out for TishUmpires: Jon Willington & Tony Walsh
Scorer: Wendy Bradshaw

Some superb fast bowling by David Dunfee saw Llechryd bomb out St Ishmaels for only 78 runs in the 20th over as he returned fine figures of 8 for 16 from ten very fast overs.

It seemed likely that Llechryd would achieve an excellent away win but after struggling themselves en route to 28 for 4 they were dismissed for 56 in 26.5 overs as Jonathan Pawlett led the Tish counter-attack with 5 for 13 in eight overs (five of them maidens).

That Tish managed to limp to even that lowly tally owed much to No 2 batsman Danny Richards, who showed real grit to bat throughout the innings and end up with 45 not out, including 2 fours and 3 sixes, with not one of his team mates managing to muster double figures against Dunfee and John Curran (1 for 21).

When Llechryd batted they had 11 apiece from Ollie Roberts and Joe Mansfield but again batsmen came and went against Jonathan Pawlett, his cousin Andrew (2 for 15), Jordan Milich (1 for 10) and Brennan Devonald (1 for 14) so that Tish turned out unlikely winners at the half-way stage – with only 134 runs being scored in 46.5 overs!
