JD Cymru Premier Championship Conference
Haverfordwest County 1 – Penybont 2
Penybont came from behind to secure a crucial victory against Haverfordwest County at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium under lights on Friday evening.
Ben Ahmun gave the Bluebirds the lead with a towering far post header, but it was short lived as the visitors equalised through a superb edge of the area strike by Owen Pritchard as it remained 1-1 at half time. Midway through the second period the visitors clinched the points as James Crole scored the winner with a fine far post header, it was his fifth goal in three games.
Rhys Griffiths’ second placed Penybont outfit have gone nine points clear of Tony Pennock’s third placed Bluebirds with three games of the season left to play.
Haverfordwest County made one change from the team that drew with Bala Town – Lee Jenkins is suspended and in came Kyle Kenniford to the starting line-up.
Penybont also made one change to the team that drew with Cardiff Met, Ben Morgan has replaced the suspended Billy Borge.
The Bluebirds opened the scoring on the 20 minute mark as Rhys Abbruzzese’s corner caused havoc before it was half cleared by the visitors’ defence, only for Abbruzzese to send in an inch perfect cross at the second time of asking for Ahmun who headered home at the far post.
However, three minutes later the visitors levelled matters with a fantastic right footed strike by Pritchard which flew in the top corner of Zac Jones’ net, the scoring opportunity stemmed from a half cleared corner.
On the 70 minute mark the visitors grabbed a decisive winner as a free kick in the box wasn’t dealt with as Crole headed home at the far post to secure victory for Penybont.
