Pembroke County Ladies (88 all out) lost to Radyr Ladies (163 for 8) by 75 runs

Pembrokeshire Ladies played their final league match of their inaugural season in the Welsh Premier League and although they eventually lost to champions Radyr by such a wide margin they continue to improve, especially in their bowling and fielding skills.
 
It was also pleasing to be able to give debuts to Cerys Jones, Lowis Hughes and Kelly Midgley, who stepped in at short notice and was delighted to play alongside her daughter Ava.
 

Great start for county bowlers

 
Indeed. Radyr lost wickets at 1, 9 and 18, including their captain Lydia Clements, who is a current Welsh international alongside Welsh Under 18 players Thara Podmanabhan, Cerys Griffiths, Seren Jenkin, Imogen Scott and Esther Woolley. Emilia Wilson made the early breakthrough for the county she bowled Alexandra Poole for a duck and then skipper Clements (4), whilst Ava Midgley bowled Griffiths (6).
 
The county looked sharp in the field but Radyr used their depth of experience as they settled  things down via Carmen  Clements (29, including two boundaries) and wicket-keeper Sian Pyne (four fours in her 30) before they fell respectively to Lauren Davies and talented teenage bowler Maddie Potter.

Olivia James then shifted Sophie Thomas with the aid of a good Potter catch but then Thara Podmanabhan dropped anchor until the end of the innings with a vital 49 not out that was without a single boundary but in the context of the game was key because with the addition of 29 extras  Radyr moved on to a healthy  163 for 8.
 
They lost Jenkin and Bethany Cook late on as Emilia Wilson was the bowler and she topped the bowling charts with a superb 4 for 21 haul, supported by Ava Midgley (1 for 20 in eight overs),  Lauren Davies (1 for 22), Olivia James (1 for 33) , Cerys Jones, Lowis Hughes and Maddie Potter (1 for 22).
 

County disappoint when they start batting

 
Pembrokeshire also started their innings in disappointing fashion as Jemma Phillips was bowled by Cooke from the first ball after tea and then Lauren Davies (4) was adjudged lbw to Carmen Clements, who also bowled Midgley for 8 (two boundaries in 29 balls faced).
 
Skipper Sam Rossiter watched these wickets fall but found a willing ally in Wilson unto the skipper departed for 24, bowled by Imogen Smart for 24 (two fours). Wilson earned the county’s ‘player of the match’ tag as she scored 31 not out in 49 deliveries (including three fours) but wickets fell regularly at the other end as the lack of experience at this level showed.

“We were beaten by a very experienced team who took the title as a result of this victory and we have really enjoyed the challenge of playing at this high level, especially with so many young players who can only get better as a result.
 
“We now look forward to the T20 day at Newport on Sunday 3rd September, featuring all four teams and whatever the result I can only say that Nick Evans (our president) and I are very proud of the way all the players have conducted themselves in a great team atmosphere.”
