Cleddau Reach School has been able to celebrate a superb success at the Pembrokeshire Cross Country Championships.
 
The event was held on October 27th at Carew Airfield, with primary schools from across Pembrokeshire invited to take part and well over 1,000 children involved. With boys and girls races for Years 3 to 6 (all junior year groups), the event was run well by Matt Freeman and his team at Sport Pembrokeshire and, despite some typical cross country winter weather, there was a great turnout from family members to support the children.
 
This was the first time the event has taken place in three years due to the pandemic and so it was positive to see such a big turnout after having such a long period without competitive sport for schools.
 
Cleddau Reach had 40 children in their squad, most of whom had not taken part in a cross country event before, but who had benefited from coaching beforehand from Ricky Pearson (Teacher and Sports Lead) and went on to become overall champions.
 
"We place a big emphasis on giving our best in everything we do and having a healthy competitive spirit as part of our school vision: Believe, Achieve, Inspire," said Mr Pearson. "The children lived up to this brilliantly, with plenty of top 10 finishes and 100% effort from all. The end result meant we came out on top as the overall county winners and we’re looking forward to defending our title next year."
 
Theresa Canton, from Sport Pembrokeshire, later attended the school to present the team with their trophy.
