A championship winning cricket team was invited to County Hall this week because Neyland Cricket Club were this year’s Pembrokeshire champions and the club also won the two most important cup competitions in county cricket – the Harrison Allen Bowl and the Duggie Morris Cup.
To mark their achievement Pembrokeshire County Council’s Chairman, Councillor Arwyn Williams, invited the team to a special reception in Haverfordwest on Tuesday 1st October. Also in attendance was Councillor Elwyn Morse, Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure, and Neyland Councillor, Simon Hancock.
Rare achievement
Congratulating them on their success Councillor Morse said their treble win was a rare achievement.
“And if that wasn’t enough, you also had the distinction of your victory over Llangwm in the Harrison Allen Bowl final appearing on TV sets across the country!” he said.
“The 20-minute Sky Sports coverage of the final in a lunch break during the final Ashes Test Match was not only a great advertisement for county cricket but for Pembrokeshire as well.”
