Caernarfon Town 2 - Haverfordwest County 1

Super sub Josef Faux scored a 70th minute winner for Caernarfon Town who overcame battling Haverfordwest County at the Oval.

Tony Pennock will feel disappointed that his team narrowly lost for the third time in a row, but they quickly have to pick themselves up to go again. There are no easy games in this division, they’ve added more quality and they must find a way to deliver over the long course of the season.

Canaries take early lead

Fifel O’Rouke gave the hosts an early lead, but midway through the second period Jack Wilson equalised with a quality finish, but The Canaries secured the win as O’Rouke made no mistake from inside the box.

On the opening day of the season the Bluebirds narrowly beat the Canaries 1-0 at the Bridge Meadow, striker Jordan Davies bagged a late goal.

The hosts opened the scoring in the fifth minute, as O’Rouke powered home a header to give his team a dream start.

In the 18th minute keeper Joshua Tibbetts pulled off a good stop to deny the lively Jack Wilson.

At the other end Zac Jones came quickly off his line to deny Thomas, minutes later Elliot Scotcher’s 20-yard free kick sailed over the bar as The Canaries held onto a 1-0 cushion at half time.

Shortly after the interval Wilson drilled a low cross across the face of goal as Jordan Davies just failed to get a touch.

The visitors came close when Watkins’ struck a shot over the bar as he latched onto a long throw-in in the box.

Wilson level matters

In the 57th minute the Bluebirds levelled matters with a cracking goal scored by Wilson, he latched onto a through ball, he beat his opposite number for pace before sliding home in the far corner.

Minutes later, the visitors were unlucky not to take the lead, Ben Fawcett teed up Wilson, his fierce shot was tipped over the bar by Tibbetts.

Faux scores winner

On the 70-minute mark the Canaries restored the lead as substitute Faux coolly struck his effort past Jones.
In the latter stages the visitors threw everything at the Canaries, skipper Dylan Rees lobbed wide, Fawcett headed straight to Tibbetts, but that’s how it finished with The Canaries picking up the all-important three points.
