Alec Colley Semi Final - Evans helps Rooks Reserves into final

Carew (132 for 7) beat Hook 2nds (107 all out) by 25 runs

Scorers: Julie Davies & Chris Holder

Venue: The Athletic Ground, Neyland

Good innings by Tom Scourfield and Nick Davies helped Carew 2nds achieve a decent score against their counterparts from Hook and although good responses from Jamie Phelps and Harry Makepeace kept Hook in contention for a while they had lost three key wickets early on to veteran slow bowler Barry Evans.

This timely intervention was to prove vital as the left-arm trundler shifted top-four Hook batsmen cheaply, followed by skipper Phelps when he looked ready to cut loose, and another big hitter in Brennan Martin.

Carew battled to a tidy score

When they batted first, Carew lost Scott Richards for 6, bowled by Brennan Martin before Tom Scourfield (4 fours and a six in his 30 before he was run out) helped his side to 53 in the 8th over

Nick DaviesSimon Wood chipped in with double figures and Jacob Knox (4) was shifted by Harry Makepeace before skipper Nick Scourfield also crept over the double figure mark as the scoreboard rate was really enhanced by 22 extras as Haydn Shapcott rounded things off with an important 14 not out, 13 of them coming in the final over from two boundaries.

‘Mr Evans’ steps in at a vital time

Hook also lost an early wicket as Liam Miller was caught by Carew keeper Nick Davies off George Waters and after Richard Makepeace (16) and Jamie Phelps had advanced the score to 38 Mr Evans stepped in and also had the former caught by Davies.

Then he bowled Brennan Martin at the same score and then, the biggest scalp of all, Phelps was trapped lbw for 34, including 5 fours.

Harry Makepeace batted really well for his unbeaten 26 (2 fours) but Jacob Knox claimed 2 for 25) and Mark White ended up with 2 for 28.

There was also 13 extras to add to the total but it was the far greater experience of The Rooks which paid dividend ends and their reward is a final appearance at Treleet, Pembroke and they must wait until tonight (Thursday) to see whether they take in Lawrenny or Llangwm, who will have played on The Racecourse this evening, weather permitting.
