Round Six – 20th February 2025:
Only two games played as The Dock can’t field a team
Umpires: Christian Phillips, Billy Clarke, Dom Asson
Scorers: Sam Rossiter, Sarah Jeffrey
Venue: Neyland Community Hub
Pembroke Dock were sadly unable to field a team for their matches against Cresselly and Llanrhian and so had to concede the points, leaving Llangwm to play both their matches against these two top-for teams.
Match One:
Cresselly (96 for 2) beat Llangwm (45 all out) by 47 runs
Cresselly suffered an early blow as opener Jess Lewis departed for a duck, bowled by Zoe Brick in the first over of play, but then Sophia Cole and Phoenix Phillips steadied the innings until Sophia departed to Daisy Brick and Phoenix eventually retired.
Then Zoe Minnett batted well and was still undefeated at the end of their eight overs as they also had plenty of extras to boost their total to exactly 12 per over despite the efforts of Llangwm in the field.
Cresselly are renowned for their bowling accuracy and tight fielding but still conceded 17 extras as the ball was swinging around, but Phoenix Phillips completed a terrific all-round performance as her two overs included a maiden and she picked up three wickets, whilst only conceding three runs.
Jess Lewis was the other wicket-taker alongside two run outs, one of them being Llangwm’s top scorer Zoe Brick after she had hit four threes, with their most experienced batsman in Pam Asson starting well but then getting out - but with wickets falling regularly as Ffion Ashman and Sophia Cole also bowled well for Cresselly as they dismissed Llangwm with an over to spare.
Cresselly Innings: Sophia Cole 16, Phoenix Phillips 26*, Zoe Minnett 22*, Extras 29. Zoe Brick 1-19, Daisy Brick 1-21.
Llangwm Innings: Zoe Brick 12, Extras 17. Jess Lewis 1-12, Phoenix Phillips 3-3, Sophia Cole 0-9, Ffion Ashman 0-9.
Match Two:
Llanrhian (115 for 0) beat Llangwm (73 for 3) by 42 runs
Llangwm fielded first against Llanrhian and soon found themselves chasing leather as the top three batters for the opposition showed why they are already part of the county set-up as they scored very quickly with their good judgement of runs and ability to punish anything loose before Carrie Slack, Amanda John and Katy Jenkins all reached the retirement deadline.
Gillian Robertson and Abbey Ladd then maintained the momentum so that in their large total they had two sixes, a five, four fours and 21 threes alongside 15 extras as they completed their allotted eight overs without losing a wicket, despite the efforts of Zoe Brick and Ruby Wood in the Llangwm attack.
To be fair, Llangwm knuckled down well when it became their turn to bat, despite losing a key player in Pam Asson early on – but Zoe Brick batted well throughout and Natalie Wood looked in good form until she was run out – and with 17 extras in their final score they increased their previous score by 28 runs as proof of their improvement – and no mean feat against such a strong side!
Llanrhian Innings: Carrie Slack 26*, Amanda John 26*, Katy Jenkins 25*, Gillian Robertson 18*, Extras 15.
Llangwm Innings: Zoe Brick 22*, Natalie White 20, Extras 16. Abbey Ladd 1-24, Katy Jenkins 1-15.
