More wins for Llandysul and Aberaeron . .
Hosting Wednesday evening's match against Aberporth, batting first, Llandysul were given a solid start by Arfon Jones (36) and Steffan Davies (25), while Alex Vincent (35) and a late flourish by Andrew Davies (22no) took the total up to 156 for 5 off the allotted 20 overs. Opening bowler J Townsend with 4-0-17-1 was impressive for Aberporth.
Aberporth’s reply was built around a solid 34 by opener David Saralis, but Llandysul off-spinners Andrew Davies 4-0-19-4, and Carwyn Evans 3-0-13-2 bowled economically to ensure a comfortable victory for the home side.
Meanwhile . .
Visiting Aberaeron, Llechryd won the toss and chose to bat first.
In spite of useful contributions from John Curran (38), Charlie Welch (23), Steve Smith (18no) and Josh Ward (14), accurate bowling from Nick Jones (with 3 wickets for 19 ) helped to peg Llechryd's scoring-rate below 7 per over.
In defending their total of 137, Llechryd's bowlers were unable to dislodge enough of Aberaeron's top-order to deprive Aeron of a well deserved win, with 22 deliveries to spare.
Hywel Rees (34), A Pritchard (24), Euryl Rees (19no), Simon Newlands (12no), Jenkinson (12).
Looking at the current table, Llandysul and Aberaeron have six points each, with Llandysul leading - having played one match fewer and with a far-superior net-run-rate ; while Llechryd and Aberporth are still looking to break their ducks!

Week-3 Llandysul take control
This week, Llandysul CC went to the head of the The Teifi Valley Midweek 20-20 League - with a game in hand over second-place Aberaeron - as they took over 'Aeron's 100% record.
After winning the toss, and electing to bat on their home pitch at the school, Aberaeron's top order struggled against the pace of Llew Hughes (3-1-2-2) and accuracy of Arfon Jones (3-0-8-2), as 4 of the first 5 batsmen were dismissed without troubling the scorers.
The home team were indebted to a patient 36no from opener Jon Tuson, and supporting innings of 14 from Mark Grinzpan , and 9 from M. Phillips which brought their total up to 85 for 8 in their allocated 20 overs. The evergreen Mike Turner (taking a break from umpiring and groundsman duties) claimed 4 wickets as Aberaeron tried to increase the tempo.
Llandysul’s young openers Andrew Davies and Alex Vincent were dismissed for 8 apiece, before Carwyn Evans hit a majestic 40 before his retirement to put Llandysul in a strong position. Skipper Keith Jones (25no) and James Devonald (5no) took Llandysul to a comfortable 8 wicket victory in the 12th over. Hywel Rees and Simon Newlands took a wicket each for the home club.
Fixture-congestion prevented the match between Aberporth and Llechryd; however, rescheduling means that next week will see Aberporth hosting Llandysul on the Wednesday, followed by Llechryd on the Thursday.

Week-2 Aberaeron make it two out of two
A close and free-scoring game between Aberaeron and Aberporth, saw both
teams averaging over a run-a-ball for their full quotas of overs, with the
result in the balance until the last few deliveries.
Aberaeron batting first, with contributions from Jon Tuson (35), Hywel Rees
(23) and Mark Grinzpan (28), amassed a total of 137 for 8 ; Aberporth's key
wicket-takers were Andy Gaunt (2-19) and Jim Duggan (3-22).
In reply, Andy Gaunt (42), Jedd Townsend (31) and Chris Townsend (21) kept
the asking-rate within reach, but tight bowling from Hywel Rees - taking one
wicket and conceding only 9 runs from his 4 overs - helped to restrict
Aberporth to 127 for 5, giving Aeron the win by 10 runs.
Meanwhile . . at Llandysul, Llechryd - the visiting team - were invited to
bowl first . . .
Llandysul's opening batsmen Meurig Jones (24) and Phil Jardine (11) shared
an opening partnership of 34. Then Josh Ward, bowling spin, triggered a mini
collapse, taking 3 for 15 off his 4 overs. Captain Keith Jones (17) and Llew
Hughes (15) led the recovery to a respectable 103 for 9.
Paceman Llew Hughes , picked up 3 early wickets to leave the visitors in
trouble at 18 for 4, but a patient 24 from Richard Connolly stabilized the
innings. Dan Thomas and Alex Vincent claimed 2 wickets each to leave
Llechryd all out in the 18th over, with the home team winning by 37 runs.

Week-1 Aberaeron take the early initiative
The weather may have been kind to the bank holiday weekend cricket fixture list; however, the new Teifi Valley Midweek 20-20 League – sponsored by Gwasg Gomer Press - did not escape unscathed, with Wednesday’s downpour preventing the opening match between Aberporth and Llandysul – both captains have agreed to reschedule the fixture.
It was left to Llechryd and Aberaeron to get the tournament underway at the Castell Malgwyn ground on Thursday.
With Llechryd batting first, the regular loss of wickets stopped any scoring momentum from being established, with sharp fielding from Aberaeron resulting in three run-outs and two stumpings. Llechryd were all out for 76 in the 19th over. Only Josh Ward (36) and Kevin Evans (16) reached double figures – Nick Jones taking 3 for 15, and Mark Grinzspan 3 for 22.
When Hywel Rees (20) and Euryl Rees (23) took Aberaeron’s reply total to 49 before the loss of their first wicket, there seemed to be little doubt about the final outcome; but four wickets within two overs from Llechryd captain Graham Keen (including a hat-trick), plus a brace from Kevin Evans, lifted Llechryd’s spirits in the overcast late-evening gloom; but Grinzspan (15) and Paul Hughes comfortably took Aberaeron past Llechryd’s total, with 19 deliveries and 3 wickets to spare.

Teifi Midweek Cricket Revival
Four cricket clubs from Pembrokeshire’s northern border, and beyond, have teamed up, in order to provide more opportunities for players to get involved in local competitive midweek cricket – similar to the much-enjoyed Teifi League, played half a generation ago.
The clubs of Llandysul, Aberaeron, Aberporth and Llechryd will contest a total of twelve evening matches over the summer, with the popular 20-20 format.
To be known as The Teifi Valley Midweek 20-20 Cricket League, and with sponsorship from GWASG GOMER PRESS, the final league positions will determine the set-up of a Play-Off Finals Day, to take place at Llandysul on Sunday 26th July.
The League fixtures start on Wednesday 27th May, when Aberporth take on Llandysul, with Llechryd hosting Aberaeron on Thurs 28th.
PembrokeshireSport.co.uk will have results and reports of the competition throughout the summer.
