Pembrokeshire Karting Championships are here to stay

Drivers warm-up lap2009 sees the first county-orientated ‘arrive & drive’ Karting Championship take place!

Aimed at both motorsport fans and non-fans alike, the Pembrokeshire Karting Championship aims to bring affordable motorsport to everyone in the county!

The idea is organised and promoted by the ‘Karting Crew Group’, which is a band of friends who, since 2004 have been running private karting championships on a small scale. Two of the members are in their final year of University studying for a Motorsport Management degree and believe this to be a fantastic chance to gain practical experience of what they have learnt.

The concept sees everyone taking part in identical machinery, meaning drivers are free to use their skill alone to test or discover if they have what it takes to be a racing driver. Pembrokeshire’s answer to Lewis Hamilton might even be uncovered!

The championship, kicked off on April 19th at the county’s premier track, Carew Karting, with plenty of thrills and spills. Sunny conditions greeted the competitors on what was set to be an exciting day’s racing. A record twenty-two drivers of varied experience took to the track, but there could only be one winner.

The honours went to Pembroke Dock’s Adam Jones, who won the final and claimed the fastest lap after a thrilling duel with Johnston’s Colin Mason on the last corner of the last lap. Adam Evans, also from Pembroke Dock, drove solidly all afternoon to finish in a highly respectable third and occupied the final spot on the podium. With such competitive action and high attendance, the event was deemed a success. The organisers would like to thank the competitors and spectators for such an enjoyable afternoon.

The next round will be held at Carew Karting on the 28th June. For more information on the Championship, or if you wish to register for the second round, visit www.kartingcrew.co.uk or email rjbadham@hotmail.co.uk
